Project Overview
Modern Day Commodities completed this Convenience Store Remodel for Hy-Vee in Illinois, transforming an active retail and food service environment while allowing store operations to continue throughout construction. As the Commercial Remodeling Contractor on the project, MDC coordinated interior demolition, drywall, acoustical ceilings, paint, millwork, and fixture work including full-scope Convenience Store Construction – all while keeping the store open and operational. Trade sequencing and scheduling were managed the way only an experienced Commercial Remodeling Contractor can on an occupied retail job.
The food service scope included commercial kitchen exhaust hood and vent system installation, stainless steel wall protection panels, epoxy flooring, and concrete surface preparation and sealing. All Convenience Store Construction work in the food service area met applicable code requirements. As the Commercial Remodeling Contractor on this job, MDC maintained safe work zones per OSHA Construction Safety Standards through final punch list and project turnover.

Active Retail Environment
This project was completed inside an operating Hy-Vee location in Illinois. MDC established safe work zones, maintained customer barricades, and sequenced all demolition, rough work, and finish trades around store hours. Construction ran in phases to protect the retail environment from day one through final turnover – without closing the store.
Food Service Area Improvements
The food service scope included commercial kitchen exhaust hood installation, hood vent and ductwork, stainless steel wall protection panels, and commercial kitchen equipment coordination. All Convenience Store Construction work in the food service area met applicable code requirements and supported ongoing kitchen operations throughout.
Epoxy Flooring & Concrete Sealing
MDC performed concrete surface preparation, concrete sealing, and epoxy flooring installation throughout the remodeled areas. As the Commercial Remodeling Contractor on the flooring scope, MDC self-performed surface prep and managed the finish to commercial-grade specifications for high-traffic food service and retail use.
